Against better judgement, I signed up with Archives.com to try their service in researching family histories. They offered a 7 day FREE trial, but required a credit card. The offer indicated that should I cancel within the 7 days, there would be no charge against my card. I cancelled the $39.00 "membership" within minutes of signing up as the information they provides was worthless. I have a cancellation confirmation email that was sent to me upon cancelling my membership. Here is copy:
Hello Robert,
Thank you for contacting Archives about your membership.
As requested your membership has been canceled effective 4/2/2011. You will continue to have access to your account until 04/10/11, after which time you will forfeit all membership privileges and lose access to any information you have saved or uploaded to Archives.com. You can re-activate at any time by visiting http://www.archives.com/member/ and entering your email address and password.

Today I received an alert from my bank indicating an automatic withdrawal in the amount of $59.88. I tried to contact Archives.com during their published regular business hours, but received a message indicating they were closed and to call back during regular business hours. I have also contacted my bank.
If this is not resolved within 24 hours, I would consider legal action for illegal charges against my credit card.
Archives.com, in my opinion, is nothing but a scam. If I could I would select negative stars in rating this company.
